The "Report Card" of the First Quarter of China's Economy in 2021 Released

On April 16, the National Bureau of Statistics released the performance of the national economy in the first quarter of 2021. According to preliminary calculations, the gross domestic product in the first quarter was 24,931 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 18.3% at comparable prices. The total output value of the national construction industry in the first quarter was 4,733.3 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 31.8%.

As can be seen from the above figure, from January to March 2021, the total output value of the national construction industry was 4,733.3 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 31.8%; the construction area of the national construction industry was 9.74 billion square meters, a year-on-year increase of 9.0%.

National fixed asset investment growth in the first quarter

From January to March, the national investment in fixed assets (excluding rural households) was 9,599.4 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 25.6%. This is an increase of 6.0% over the first three months of 2019, an average increase of 2.9% over the two years; a seasonally adjusted increase of 2.06% from October to December last year. Among them, private investment in fixed assets was 5502.2 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 26.0%. From a month-on-month perspective, fixed asset investment (excluding rural households) increased by 1.51% in March.

As can be seen from the above figure, from January to March 2021, investment in construction and installation projects increased by 32.1% year-on-year.

In terms of different industries, in the tertiary industry, infrastructure investment (excluding electricity, heat, gas and water production and supply industries) increased by 29.7% year-on-year. Among them, investment in water conservancy management industry increased by 42.5%; investment in public facilities management industry increased by 23.5%; investment in road transportation industry increased by 25.7%; investment in railway transportation industry increased by 66.6%.

In terms of regions, investment in the eastern region increased by 23.5% year-on-year; investment in the central region increased by 39.9%; investment in the western region increased by 23.3%; investment in the northeastern region increased by 19.7%.

In terms of registration types, investment in domestic enterprises increased by 25.8% year-on-year; investment in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan enterprises increased by 32.3%; investment in foreign enterprises increased by 11.9%.
