Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development: Shanghai's newly-started prefabricated buildings account for 91.7% of new buildings in 2020

Overall development

All localities thoroughly implement the spirit of the Central City Work Conference and the "Guiding Opinions of the General Office of the State Council on Vigorously Developing Prefabricated Buildings", and adhere to the basic principles of market leadership and government promotion. Actively formulate policies and measures, gradually improve the technical standard system, and effectively promote the rapid development of prefabricated buildings.

In 2020, 31 provinces, autonomous regions, municipalities directly under the Central Government and Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps will start construction of a total of 630 million square meters of prefabricated buildings. This represents an increase of 50% from 2019, accounting for approximately 20.5% of the newly built building area. The "13th Five-Year Plan of Action for Prefabricated Buildings" has completed the target of reaching more than 15% by 2020.

Regional development

In 2020, the proportion of newly started prefabricated buildings in key areas such as Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei, Yangtze River Delta, and Pearl River Delta will account for 54.6% of the country. Actively promoted regions and encouraged promoted regions accounted for 45.4%, and the proportion of key promoted regions further increased compared with 2019.

Among them, the proportion of newly-started prefabricated buildings in Shanghai is 91.7%, 40.2% in Beijing, and more than 30% in Tianjin, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Hunan and Hainan.

The development of different structure types

In terms of structural form, newly-started prefabricated concrete structure buildings are 430 million square meters, an increase of 59.3% over 2019, accounting for 68.3% of newly-started prefabricated buildings. Prefabricated steel structure buildings are 190 million square meters, an increase of 46% compared to 2019, accounting for 30.2% of newly started prefabricated buildings.

Among them, 12.06 million square meters of prefabricated steel structure houses were newly started, an increase of 33% over 2019. The prefabricated steel structure integrated modular building has been quickly promoted.

Industry chain development

With the enhancement of policy-driven and market endogenous power, industries related to prefabricated construction have developed rapidly. As of 2020, a total of 328 national prefabricated construction industrial bases and 908 provincial industrial bases have been established across the country.

In the prefabricated construction industry chain, component production and assembly decoration have become new highlights. Among them, component production capacity and capacity utilization have been further improved, and the assembly and decoration area for the whole year increased by 58.7% compared with 2019.
