The experiment proved the safety and reliability of multi-layer cold bend and thick steel structure building, and laid the foundation for the construction of high-rise buildings with it in China.

However, Shi Yu said that the rigidity and stability of cold bend and thick steel structure buildings are poor. Due to technical limitations in wind resistance, earthquake resistance and fire resistance, the current domestic and foreign cold bend and thick steel structures are mostly low-rise buildings with 1-3 floors. The promulgation and implementation of the industry standard "Technical Standards for Multi-floors Cold Bend and Thick Steel Structure Housing", which was led by Academician Zhou Xuhong, has promoted the promotion and application of multi-floors cold-formed thin-walled steel structure houses in China. High-floor cold bend and thick steel structure building. They decided to use a vibration test equivalent to an earthquake intensity of 8 to verify whether the building with 6 floors or more is safe enough.

 

The shaking table laboratory of Chongqing University has a clean height of 25.5 meters, a table size of 6.1 meters × 6.1 meters and a load capacity of 60 tons. It can input earthquakes in 3 directions and 6 degrees of freedom. It is one of the largest shaking tables in China in terms of table size, load capacity and anti-overturning moment. They built a 6-floor full-size cold bend thick steel structure building on the shaking table, with a total height of 16.2 meters, a length of 5.6 meters, and a width of 4.2 meters. Two new types of lateral force resistance systems are adopted: steel pipe end column, which has double-sided skinned steel plate shear walls, and clamp-supported single-layer thick steel plate shear walls. Compared with the shaking table test of cold bend thick steel structure building that have been completed at home and abroad, this cold-formed thin-walled steel shaking table test has a new structural system, a large structural aspect ratio, and a loading condition of up to 8 degrees. , A series of features including two phases of testing in construction phase and normal use.

 

"This experiment is the world's first full-scale cold bend thick steel structure building shaking table test for a 6-floor building with two-way ground motion input." Academician Zhou Xuhong introduced that this experiment is the world's largest building with the largest aspect ratio. The seismic waves are horizontal and vertical. Two directions can simulate more complex real earthquake situations. After more than 100 earthquakes simulation, the building was tested and the building still stood tall. After stopping the test, they conducted a comprehensive observation of the building and found that some boards were cracked and some screws were loose, but they were all normal test phenomena, and there was no problem with the main structure of the building.

This test project originated from the National Key R&D Program "Research and Demonstration Application of High Performance Steel Structure System" hosted by Academician Zhou Xuhong and Professor Shi Yu and the National Natural Science Foundation of China "Research on High Efficient Seismic System of Steel Structures".

 

The shaking table test results during the construction phase on May 22 and the normal use phase from June 3 to 4 show that the cold-formed thin-walled steel structure multi-storey house is safe and reliable, and it is also a better choice for cold-formed thin-walled steel structure houses. High-level development has laid the foundation. The team will continue to study the cold-formed thin-walled steel structure system, and use tests to verify the safety and reliability of the structure, laying the foundation for practical applications.
