Building a school like “building blocks”, adding prefabricated buildings in Xixian New District

Recently, Xixian New District will add a steel structure "building block-style" building-Fengdong Road School. The school was constructed by China State Construction Technology and Industry Group and will welcome the first batch of users on September 1 next year.

The school is located in the south of Century Avenue, Fengdong New Town, Xixian New District, Xi'an City, Shaanxi Province. The project was completed in two phases, the first phase is a primary school and the second phase is a middle school. The total construction area is 77704 square meters. As one of the key livelihood projects in Shaanxi Province, the school can accommodate more than 3000 people after completion. The school has a comprehensive teaching building with a reasonable layout, a full-featured wind and rain playground, a spacious and tidy student canteen, and an advanced network classroom, an art room, a music room, a library, and a science laboratory. It is a nine-year consistent school integrating teaching, sports and life.

Gao Lei, the project manager of the EPC general contracting project of Fengdong Road School in Xixian New District, introduced that in response to the government's call for prefabricated building planning and environmental protection in recent years, China State Construction Engineering Group Co., Ltd., after rigorous planning and design, finally adjusted the school building model to prefabricated steel structure construction. The school is a 100% prefabricated steel structure main building, which has the advantages of short construction period, strong earthquake resistance, and environmental protection.

Project manager Gao Lei said, "It's like splicing building blocks. First, according to the design model, the building blocks are made in the factory and then built on the construction site.  Therefore, on this construction site, you rarely see the sand, cement, and bricks on the traditional construction site. They have been replaced by new materials such as steel structures, steel trusses, floor decks, and ALC panels. "

The traditional concrete construction process is complicated and requires a large number of workers to participate. It not only consumes human resources, but also relies heavily on the craftsmanship of the workers. The steel structure assembly type is more efficient, less affected by the weather, and can be operated normally in winter. It is reported that after Fengdong Road School is completed, the seismic and crack resistance can reach 8 degrees.

At present, steel structure buildings have been widely used in many fields such as residential buildings, hospitals, schools, large bridges, and social housing.
