Guiyang Olympic Sports Center (Phase II) project officially starts steel structure construction

On June 19, the construction of the Guiyang Olympic Sports Center (Phase II) project built by Guiyang Investment Control Group officially started steel structure construction and is expected to be delivered in August 2021.

The project covers an area of more than 130,000 m², including the newly built main gymnasium, training hall, supporting buildings and outdoor sports fields, underground parking lots, and auxiliary facilities. The project is designed with five floors above ground and one underground floor, with the building height of 43.7 meters. Among them, the main stadium is designed in accordance with the standards of the first-class super large stadium, with a total number of seats of more than 10,000, and the shape of the grandstand is an octagon.

According to Wu Jian, the executive manager of the construction unit China Construction Eighth Engineering Bureau Co., Ltd., the construction site of the project is high in the southwest and low in the northeast. The maximum road height difference is about 10 meters. To this end, the project uses steps, ramps, etc. to solve the site height difference, try to maintain the original topography and landforms, and reduce the amount of earthwork. The construction of the main stadium adopts the advanced technology of the large-span string-supported dome structure. It is currently the shortest span-to-height ratio of the string-supported dome structure in China, and is also the largest rib-ring-type string-supported dome with a span of 117 meters. The roof adopts a vertical seam light metal roof, and the roof panel can be set up long to prevent lap joints, eliminate hidden dangers of water leakage, and enhance the integrity and perception of the appearance.

According to Yue Hui, the person in charge of the project site of Guiyang Investment Control Group, based on the climate characteristics of Guiyang, all rooms have openable windows except for special areas, making full use of natural ventilation and no air conditioning. The space between the competition hall and the building canopy is designed as a "gray" space. The steel structure canopy uses perforated panels on the facade to allow natural wind to pass through while blocking the entry of strong light. The exterior wall of the octagonal stand area of the main stadium uses a terracotta panel exterior wall system with a ventilation and rain curtain structure. The exterior walls of buildings mostly use metal plates, glass and other recyclable environmental protection materials.
