Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development: Let "Made in China" be labeled green

Recently, Li Rusheng, chief engineer of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, said at a press conference on the theme of "This Decade of China" held by the Central Propaganda Department that the construction sector is an important area of my country's energy consumption and carbon emissions, and it is also an important area for my country to achieve carbon peaks. , an important force in carbon neutrality.

One is to make the construction industry bigger through green buildings. At present, the area of new green buildings nationwide has increased from 4 million square meters in 2012 to more than 2 billion square meters in 2021. In 2021, the proportion of new green buildings in cities and towns that year will reach 84%, and the cumulative number of projects that have obtained green building labels has reached 25,000. At present, 2,134 green building materials products have obtained certification marks, which has driven the coordinated development of related industries, and has also elongated and widened the construction industry chain.

The second is to improve the lives of residents through building energy conservation. Vigorously promote building energy conservation, so that the energy conservation standard for residential buildings in the northern region is raised from 50% in 2012 to 75%. By the end of 2021, urban energy-efficient buildings will reach 27.7 billion square meters. From the monitoring results, the residential buildings that have undergone energy-saving renovation can increase the indoor temperature by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius in winter and decrease by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius in summer, improving the living comfort of residents.

The third is to make the residents’ environment greener by adjusting the energy consumption structure. By the end of 2021, my country's building solar thermal application area will reach 5.066 billion square meters, solar photovoltaic installed capacity will reach 18,200 MW, shallow geothermal energy application building area will be about 467 million square meters, and the renewable energy replacement rate of urban buildings will reach 6% , effectively reducing carbon emissions.

The fourth is to enhance the competitiveness of the industry by improving building energy efficiency standards. We have successively promulgated and implemented a series of building energy conservation, green building and green building materials standards and norms, such as the General Specification for Building Energy Conservation and Renewable Energy Utilization, and the Green Building Evaluation Standard, which have improved our competitiveness and created conditions for China's construction to "go global". 

In the next step, the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development will adhere to the priority of ecology and conservation, implement the goals of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality, and increase the promotion of building energy conservation, green buildings and green construction. Accelerate the green and low-carbon transformation and development of urban and rural construction, make "Made in China" label green, and contribute to building a beautiful China.
