The groundbreaking meeting of the 100 billion-level Zhongtian Green High-quality Steel Demonstration Project was held in Haimen, Jiangsu

On August 28, the construction meeting for the Zhongtian Green High-quality Steel Demonstration Project, a major project in Jiangsu Province with a total investment of US$100 billion, was held in Tongzhou Bay Haimen Port New District, Tongzhou Bay, Jiangsu. Ren Zhenhe, deputy secretary of the Jiangsu Provincial Party Committee, attended the meeting and announced the start of the project.

The Zhongtian Green High-quality Steel Demonstration Project is a demonstration project for Jiangsu Province and Nantong City to implement the two national strategies of the Yangtze River Economic Belt Development and the Yangtze River Delta Integrated Development, and to promote the transfer of steel production capacity from the river to the coast. It is also a leading project to accelerate the construction of a new port in Jiangsu at Tongzhou Bay and promote the transformation and upgrading of Jiangsu's industry.

The project has been in progress since June 2018. In January of this year, Haimen City and Zhongtian Iron and Steel Group signed a business agreement in Nanjing City, thus entering a new stage of construction. The total investment of the project is about 100 billion yuan, and the planned steel production capacity is 20 million tons, of which the first phase is about 8 million tons. It mainly produces high-quality wire rods and full-spec H-beams, and simultaneously builds related industries such as circular economy, steel deep processing, and fabricated steel structures.

According to reports, after the project is completed and put into production, it will achieve annual operating income of over 100 billion yuan, driving about 80,000 jobs. It will play a role as a benchmark for protecting the Yangtze River and serving the two national strategies, provide strong support for Nantong to build a strategic fulcrum for the Yangtze River Economic Belt and create new growth poles, and inject strong impetus into the transformation and upgrading of key industries in the province.

Ren Zhenhe requested that provincial-level agencies and departments should take the initiative to serve project construction and help enterprises solve practical problems; Cities, districts and counties of Nantong must fulfill their main responsibilities, and carry out the project with the spirit of chasing the river and the sea and making the tide of entrepreneurship. Ren Zhenhe also encouraged Zhongtian Iron and Steel Group to scientifically coordinate the implementation to ensure early completion of the project, early production and early results, and strive to build the project into a model for implementing the national strategy, a model for industrial transformation and upgrading, and a model for the steel industry in Jiangsu Province and even the whole country.
